Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy & Integration
At The Hinterlands, we offer ketamine-assisted therapy and integration for clients who are seeking expanded, nontraditional pathways to healing. Rooted in trauma-informed care and a deep respect for altered states of consciousness, our clinicians guide you through every stage of the process—preparation, dosing sessions, and post-session integration—with attunement and care.
Ketamine therapy can support shifts in entrenched patterns, relief from depression and anxiety, and a deeper sense of connection to self and others. We recognize that psychedelic experiences can open powerful doors to meaning-making, and we work to hold those doors with safety and intention.
We currently offer in-person psychedelic-assisted therapy sessions at our office in Irving Park, Chicago. Integration-only sessions (without psychedelics) are also available virtually to clients in Illinois and Connecticut.
Areas of Clinical Specialty
LGBTQIA+: We offer inclusive ketamine therapy for the LGBTQIA+ community. Our queer therapists are attuned to the ways identity, dysphoria, discrimination, and chosen family shape your inner world. Whether you’re exploring expanded consciousness or integrating meaningful insights, we hold space for your full truth to emerge.
ENM/Poly Folks: Our clinicians understand the complexity and fluidity of ethical non-monogamy and polyamorous relationships. Ketamine-assisted therapy can offer profound clarity in times of transition, emotional overwhelm, or relational stuckness. We approach your process with deep respect for autonomy, consent, and evolving connection.
BDSM/Kink Community: We affirm kink as a legitimate expression of identity, embodiment, and intimacy. Our kink-aware therapists offer integration support that respects your practices, honors your boundaries, and centers your agency. Psychedelic work can be a powerful tool for exploring inner narratives without shame or pathologization.
Immigrants/Refugees: We provide culturally responsive psychedelic support for immigrants, refugees, and first-generation individuals. Whether you're navigating displacement, ancestral grief, or diasporic identity, ketamine-assisted therapy can create space for insight, restoration, and storytelling rooted in dignity.
Substance Use: We support clients exploring their relationship to substances through a harm reduction lens. Ketamine-assisted therapy is not a replacement for sobriety or recovery work, but it can offer meaningful access to clarity, curiosity, and embodied choice.
Chronic Illness: Living with chronic illness often invites deep questions around embodiment, care, and resilience. Psychedelic psychotherapy can help surface new stories about pain, possibility, and self-trust. We honor your body’s wisdom and offer compassionate support every step of the way.
Autism/ADHD/Neuroqueer: We affirm neurodivergence as a valid and valuable way of experiencing the world. Ketamine-assisted therapy may offer new sensory insight, emotional regulation, and connection pathways. Our therapists adapt care to your needs and never aim to “fix” or conform you.
Multi-Cultural/Mixed-Race: BIPOC ketamine therapy can bring forward complex feelings around belonging, identity, and generational experience. We support mixed-race and multicultural clients in reauthoring their stories with care, nuance, and a deep respect for cultural multiplicity.
Artists/Performers/Craftsfolk: Creative people often turn to psychedelics for insight, healing, or creative breakthroughs. We work with you to integrate expanded states into everyday life—navigating performance blocks, identity questions, or existential themes with grounded presence and attuned curiosity.
Religious/Spiritual Trauma: For those healing from religious harm, therapy with psychedelics can open space for redefinition, grief, and new spiritual exploration. We move slowly and respectfully, helping you integrate what emerges while honoring your boundaries and pace.
Parenting: Parenthood transforms identity in profound ways. Psychedelic therapy can bring clarity to patterns shaped by intergenerational trauma, relationship fatigue, or personal rediscovery. We offer support for caregivers seeking to show up more fully for themselves and their families.
Educators: Teaching demands a depth of care that can lead to burnout, moral injury, or disillusionment. Psychedelic-assisted therapy offers a path for reconnecting with your values, imagination, and sense of purpose. We honor the emotional labor of educators and the systems you navigate.
Activists: Justice work is sacred, but it can be exhausting. Ketamine therapy may help you tend to grief and reconnect to your body and imagination. Our Chicago psychotherapists understand activism as a spiritual, emotional, and communal practice, and meet you with solidarity.
Mad/Crip Folks: We support Mad and Crip clients who seek access to expanded healing while resisting medical pathologization. Our approach to ketamine therapy centers autonomy, consent, and the right to define your own experience. We offer psychedelic integration that honors your resistance and insight.
What to Expect
No two psychedelic therapy sessions look the same. We begin by learning your biography, culture, neurotype, and inner landscape—honoring the complexity you bring into the room. Together, we’ll clarify your goals for engaging in ketamine-assisted therapy or integration, explore what support structures are needed, and co-create a therapeutic approach that respects your autonomy and inner wisdom. Psychedelic healing is just one part of a larger journey toward wholeness. Identity, systems, environment, and lived experience all inform the healing process, and attending to these layers can be profound, tender, and even joyful.
Your first session is a space for mutual discovery and careful preparation. You and your therapist will get to know each other, including your hopes, hesitations, and rhythms. By the end of the session, we’ll discuss whether and how to move forward together. We’ll also review consent practices, scheduling, payment, and office policies. We aim to help you feel resourced, grounded, and connected as you begin or continue your psychedelic healing path.
