Meche Gutierrez

Hey! My name is Meche (meh-chay). I’m a queer, transgender non-binary, white Mexican-American therapist and lifelong musician, artist, and poet. I shape my practice with a relational, trauma-informed lens, viewing relationships and community as integral parts of personal and collective healing and living. I work from an anti-racist, anti-colonial framework and am passionate about helping clients navigate our anti-Black, patriarchal society and make meaning within our inherently oppressive American systems.

As a therapist, I love creating an atmosphere of safety, warmth, and care where you can feel increasingly comfortable expressing yourself without fear of judgment. I approach our therapeutic relationship as a mutual, collaborative effort that centers your unique lived experience and respects your desired goals and needs. With this in mind, I guide our sessions with compassion and curiosity, utilizing an eclectic mix of modalities that includes parts work derived from Internal Family Systems, core tenets of cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, acceptance & commitment therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy. I deeply encourage the use of creative arts to express and endure both heavy and expansive emotions, knowing the restorative power of the arts often brings about deep healing and regulation. I am working towards incorporating somatic experiencing work into my practice and exploring the ways we can process trauma both personally and collectively.

I love to work with teens aged 13-18 and adults from all stages of life. My specialties include trans/queer identity, queer sexuality, ADHD, non-monogamy, identity development, sex & relationships, sex work, BDSM/kink, and Western religious trauma. In my work, I often draw on what I’ve learned in life and value the expanse of my lived experiences as a basis for how I interact with clients. Some of my special interests and capabilities that I feel comfortable bringing into our therapeutic space include traditional Mexican brujeria de rancho, tarot, astrology, and Eurocentric occult practices with aspirations towards Spanish fluency and deeper work in curanderismo.

Our hearts, minds, bodies, and lives are sacred and deserve careful attention from ourselves and our loved ones. I love to help clients build and maintain a life they want within the systems that bind us and believe that integrating the parts of ourselves that seem disparate or confusing can be one of the most beautiful things we do in this lifetime.
